UiTM Convocation: What to Expect

Everything you need to know about attending UiTM Shah Alam convocation — from dates and dress code to parking and nearby dining.

When is UiTM Convocation?

UiTM Shah Alam typically holds its convocation ceremonies twice a year — once around March–April and again around September–October. The exact dates are announced by the university a few months in advance. We recommend checking the official UiTM website or your faculty's announcement for the latest schedule.

Convocation usually spans several days, with different faculties and programmes assigned specific dates. Plan to arrive at least one day before your ceremony date to settle in and explore the area.

Dress Code & What to Wear

UiTM convocation follows a formal dress code. Graduates typically wear their faculty's academic robes, while guests are expected to dress smartly. Here are some guidelines:

  • Graduates: Academic robes are provided by the faculty. Wear smart attire underneath — a collared shirt and slacks for men, a blouse and skirt or dress for women.
  • Guests: Smart casual to formal. Avoid t-shirts, shorts, and open-toed sandals. A simple baju kurung or batik is perfectly acceptable.
  • Photography: The graduation hall and surrounding areas are great for photos. Bring a camera or smartphone — you'll want to capture the moment.

Parking at UiTM

During convocation, parking near the main hall can be challenging. UiTM usually opens additional parking areas and provides shuttle services from satellite parking lots. Here are some tips:

  • Arrive early — at least 45–60 minutes before the ceremony starts.
  • Follow the parking marshals' instructions — they'll guide you to available spots.
  • If staying at a nearby homestay like Sabi House (1.4 km away), take Grab for around RM5 — no parking stress.
  • Ride-hailing services (Grab) are also available if you prefer not to drive.

After the ceremony, you'll want to celebrate with a meal. There are plenty of restaurants and cafés near UiTM — from local Nasi Tumpang breakfast spots to family-friendly restaurants in Seksyen 7. Check our where to eat near UiTM guide for recommendations.
